Hamas 'bomb factory' found in West Bank mosque
RAMALLAH (AFP) — Palestinian security officials said on Sunday that they had found a Hamas bomb-making factory underneath a mosque in the occupied West Bank.
"Security forces found a bomb-making factory inside a mosque in Qalqiliya," an interior ministry statement said. "Many of the bombs were ready to use and many of them were of industrial grade."
A senior security official told AFP that Fatah-led Palestinian security forces had detained "many" people for questioning after the discovery, saying: "This factory belongs to Hamas."
The revelation was likely to increase tensions between the two main factions whose long-running feud exploded in June 2007 when the Islamist Hamas group booted out Fatah loyalists from Gaza after a week of deadly street battles.
The move left Fatah's power base confined to the West Bank and since then the rivals have accused each other of persecuting their members.
Egypt has sought for months to mediate reconciliation talks with the aim of creating a unity government, but earlier this month it said was putting those efforts temporarily on hold.

Egypt press brands Hezbollah chief 'war criminal'
by Jailan Zayan Jailan Zayan
Sun Apr 12, 8:37 am ET
CAIRO (AFP) – The Egyptian press on Sunday slammed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah as a war criminal who should be put on trial after he admitted that his militants in Cairo were helping Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Nasrallah said on Friday that a man Cairo is holding on suspicion of planning attacks is a member of his Lebanese Shiite fundamentalis group and was providing logistical help to Hamas, but denied seeking to destabilise Egypt.
"A criminal who knows no mercy" cried the blood-red headline in the state-owned Al-Gomhuria which reserved the whole of its front page for an editorial bashing Nasrallah, repeatedly referring to him as "Sheikh Monkey."
"Sheikh Monkey, we will not allow you to belittle our judicial symbols, for you are a highway robber, a pure criminal who has killed his own people but we will not allow you to threaten the peace and security of Egypt," editor Mohammed Ali Ibrahim wrote.
"You and your gang are terrorists and soon... the public prosecutor will issue details of an investigation into your terrorist organisation," he said.
Al-Ahram newspaper, which is also state-owned, said Nasrallah's admission that Hezbollah is operating in Egypt provided grounds for prosecution.
"The admission by (Nasrallah) of sending agents into Egypt... puts him at the forefront of accusations and requires dealing with him under Egyptian law, or international law and issuing an (Interpol) red notice for his arrest," said editorial writer Ahmed Mussa.
"Egypt must start proceedings to try him in an international court. He has admitted to the crime. He must be handed to the Lebanese government as a war criminal," Karam Gabr, editor of the pro-regime Rose Al-Yussef, told Egyptian television.
Egypt is holding 49 people with alleged links to Hezbollah accused of plotting "hostile operations" in Egypt, among them Sami Shihab, a Lebanese citizen.
In his speech on Friday, Nasrallah confirmed that Shihab was a member of Hezbollah and was working to help Hamas against Israel.
"If helping the Palestinians is a crime, I officially admit to my crime."
Hezbollah, which is backed by Egypt's regional rivals Iran and Syria, is a vocal supporter of Hamas, the Islamist rulers of Gaza, and has lashed out at Egypt for closing its border crossing with the Palestinian enclave.
An Israeli cabinet minister said on Sunday that Nasrallah deserved to die.
"Nasrallah deserves death and I hope that those who know what to do with him will act and give him what he deserves," said Transport Minister Yisrael Katz.
Israel and Hezbollah fought a devastating war in Lebanon in 2006 which ended with Israel failing to achieve any of its aims.

Re: Hamas bomb factory found under West Bank mosque
Thu, April 16, 2009 - 1:45 AMAnd the latest on the Hezbollah/Hamas connection.
I particularly liked this line:
Cairo's claims are "fabricated" to "sully Hezbollah's image", Sheikh Naim Qassem told AFP news agency.
How do you sully the image of an organization who's policy is to murder innocent civilians?

Hezbollah alleges Egypt vendetta
Israel-Egypt border on Sinai Peninsula
Egypt is under pressure to halt smuggling from the Sinai
Egypt's claim to have broken up a Hezbollah cell plotting attacks on its territory is a "baseless" revenge bid, Hezbollah's deputy head has said.
Egypt says it is holding 25 Hezbollah suspects and searching for 24 more in the Sinai peninsula.
Cairo's claims are "fabricated" to "sully Hezbollah's image", Sheikh Naim Qassem told AFP news agency.
The Lebanese political and militant group says one suspect was trying to smuggle arms into Gaza for Hezbollah.
Last week Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said Sami Shihab had been trying to get military equipment into Gaza along with no more than 10 other people.
Egypt announced on Wednesday that it was holding the group on suspicion of planning "hostile operations".
Egyptian prosecutors said Hezbollah had told the men to collect intelligence from villages along the Egypt-Gaza border, tourist sites and the Suez Canal.
"It has become clear to everyone that these accusations are fabricated... and that they are worthless," Sheikh Qassem said.
He said the accusations were "politically motivated" and were being made in revenge for the Lebanese movement's stance on Egypt's support for the Israeli blockade for Gaza.
Hezbollah supports Hamas, the Islamic movement which controls Gaza.
'Maid of honour'
In December, as Israel began a three-week offensive in Gaza - with the stated aim of ending Hamas rocket fire into Israel - Mr Nasrallah called on Egyptians to protest and force their government to open the border.
Hezbollah is both a political faction, with seats in the Lebanese government, and a military organisation which fought a war against Israel in 2006.
On Tuesday, in comments to the pan-Arab newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit accused Iran of using the Shia group to gain a foothold in Egypt.
"Iran, and Iran's followers, want Egypt to become a maid of honour for the crowned Iranian queen when she enters the Middle East," he said.
Correspondents say the row reflects a wider power struggle between Sunni Arab countries such as Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, and Shia Muslim Iran and its allies Syria, Hezbollah and Hamas.

Re: Hamas bomb factory found under West Bank mosque
Thu, April 16, 2009 - 8:33 AMI am SHOCKED~!!!!
Brent this HAS to be a mistake~!!
All along I had understood that these youths were merely hard luck cases , you know gangs of street urchin children who got a little carried away with their children's slings and a few rocks and bottles that the mean evil IDF was mercilessly using as a pretext to commit genocide.
Yah this is all wrong. Those Bomb factories were plants by those crafty Jews for propaganda purposes.
Yup just like all those sneaky Jews who gassed themselves and worked & starved themselves to death by the millions in Europe for no more noble purpose than to frame the poor helpless Nazis.
Yup I knew I had it down.
